CELLAR DOOR » ART & LITERATURE PUBLICATION
Galesburg, IL
Cellar Door is an arts and literary publication at Knox College that publishes two volumes each year. The requirements for publication are simple: the artist must attend a workshop of their peers, and love their work. I was asked to join the publication staff in 2012, and became Co-Editor-in-Chief the following year. During my time directing the publication, I helped produce two competetively beautiful volumes, publicize our submissions drive and release events, and write the proposal that would greatly expand the publication budget.
Cellar Door was created by B.J. Hollars in the early 2000s, because he was unsatisfied with the limited capacity of the established literary publication, Catch. Cellar Door created a space for free individual expression. Though printed on newsprint in black and white for years, my time at Cellar Door saw our first color volumes. Though the content of Cellar Door is ultimately up to contributors, as an Editor and Editor-in-Chief I read every submission and tried to provide as much feedback as possible during workshops.
